BMW fans have another reason to rejoice this weekend as SMC Asia Car Distributors Corporation, the German automaker’s authorized importer and seller in the Philippines, stages “Joyfest 2020” at the Activity Center of Bonifacio Global City in Taguig. The event will be held until February 23 (Sunday), and customers can expect the usual array of fun activities and irresistible sales deals.

At the center of the affair are the new versions of the 1-Series subcompact hatchback and the X1 compact crossover SUV. The 1-Series is all-new and the X1 is just a facelift. Both these models are crucial to BMW’s sales offensive in our market as they are relatively more attainable versus their pricier stablemates.

BMW 1-Series. The third-generation model (F40) of this popular hatchback (some 2.5 million units have been sold worldwide, according to the brand) has arrived in our territory. Expect this version to be more agile than its predecessor as it is 5mm shorter, 34mm wider and 13mm taller. The car is offered in two guises: the 118i Sport and the M135i xDrive. The former is powered by a 1.5-liter three-cylinder gasoline engine (140hp and 220Nm) mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, while the latter is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo gasoline motor (306hp and 450Nm) paired with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport gearbox. BMW X1. The second-generation model of this urban crossover SUV features nice tweaks to its exterior, most visibly observed from the front end where a more prominent double-kidney grille takes pride of place. Only one variant is being offered to Filipino buyers for now, and that is the X1 sDrive18d xLine (quite a mouthful, we know) propelled by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine. This source of propulsion works in tandem with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and is rated at 150hp and 350Nm. Price: P3,090,000
