Finally, local Land Rover Defenders will get diesel engines

If you don't fancy the high-tech hybrid engine

Remember when we were given sample the latest Land Rover Defender a couple of months ago? We loved the experience, to say the least. However, we were quite puzzled that All British Cars, the local Land Rover distributor, decided to launch the vehicle with a hybrid powerplant when everything else in its stable had diesel engines. Fans of the fabled SUV marque probably felt the same way too, which is why the British carmaker decided to bring in the oil-burning version of the Defender.

Globally, the Defender comes with a choice of two diesel engines. Thankfully, we are getting the more powerful D240 version. Under the hood is a twin-turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine making 238hp and 430Nm of twist, transferred to all four wheels by an eight-speed automatic transmission. It may not be as powerful at the top end as its petrol-fed brethren, but the diesel Defenders will be just as capable and offer better fuel efficiency.

You can order your diesel Defender in the cute and cozy 90 body style priced as follows:

  • Urban D240 – P5,510,000
  • Country D240 – P5,560,000
  • Adventure D240 – P5,640,000
  • Explorer D240 – P5,810,000

Or if you’d rather have some friends come along, the 110 might be a more suitable vehicle. Have a look at the SRPs:

  • Urban D240 – P6,110,000
  • Country D240 – P6,160,000
  • Adventure D240 – P6,240,000
  • Explorer D240 – P6,410,000
The diesel option should open up the car to a wider range of consumers. PHOTO FROM LAND ROVER

If your wallets aren’t ready yet, don’t worry. You can preorder your diesel Land Rover Defender now at All British Cars’s dealerships in EDSA Greenhills and Bonifacio Global City. After that, you have a couple of months to save up and convince the missus since deliveries are expected to begin in early 2021.
