Tomorrow, October 4, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines will officially launch the new and improved 2020 Montero Sport. This face-lifted version of the popular midsize SUV was actually unveiled to global markets in July, and we’re now getting it in our territory. The exterior gets the second-generation Dynamic Shield fascia, new LED headlamps with daytime running lights, new 18-inch alloy wheels and a shark-fin antenna.
At the back, new LED taillights adopt a sportier, sleeker interpretation of the so-called “crying” taillamps. Also, the new power tailgate boasts height memory and hands-free access. And speaking of mechanical bits at the back, Mitsubishi claims the rear suspension has been upgraded.
The new Montero Sport offers a new body color: White Diamond.
Inside, the 2020 Montero Sport gets a new eight-inch multimedia entertainment system with smartphone link that’s compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In terms of safety, the SUV adds an automatic brake-hold function.
The driver will also immediately notice the new eight-inch LCD digital instrument cluster.
Mitsubishi will initially release a pair of 4×2 variants—the GT 2WD and the GLS 2WD, both powered by the tried-and-tested 2.4-liter four-cylinder DOHC turbodiesel MIVEC (4N15) engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. A lower 4×2 variant, the GLX 2WD MT, will eventually be included in the lineup. A 4×4 variant—the GT 4WD —is more feature-packed but won’t hit showrooms until next year.
The prices of the 4×2 variants are:
- GT 2WD – P1,998,000
- GLS 2WD – P1,769,000

So…what do you think?
UPDATE: We mistakenly said that there would be two 4×4 variants. We meant just a single 4×4 variant for next year. The sentence in question has been corrected. Our apologies for the oversight.
