Mazda Philippines today launched the face-lifted 2 sedan and hatchback at its Center of Excellence facility in Cabuyao, Laguna. The subcompact model now wears the modern face seen on newer Mazda vehicles like the compact 3. Here’s what the 2 looks now:

The new 2 retains the same (but improved) 1.5-liter Skyactiv-G engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. This motor gets a small increase in both output and torque: 108.5hp and 141Nm (slightly up from the previous 106.5hp and 139Nm). Mazda claims the new engine has revised internals and boasts “improved fuel efficiency, quicker response and reduced harmful exhaust emissions.”

Inside, the new Mazda 2 gets a black-and-brown fabric seat material. When it comes to the infotainment system, the car sheds the CD player but now has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard features.

There will only be one variant (called Elite) for both the sedan and the hatchback, and both are priced at P995,000. Those interested may see the two versions in the metal at Mazda dealerships starting this coming week. Fancy a new city car in time for the New Year? Here’s an attractive option.
