Suzuki PH is also launching the S-Presso hatchback next month

Together with the XL7 subcompact crossover SUV

Is the smallish S-Presso a hatchback or a crossover? PHOTO FROM SOURCE

Recently, we told you that Suzuki Philippines was officially releasing the Indonesia-sourced XL7 subcompact crossover this March. Our informant for that story has now gotten in touch with us again, and this time the person bears more glad tidings. It turns out that next month, Suzuki is actually launching not one but two new vehicle models—the second car being the S-Presso city runabout. The photos you see here were apparently also taken at the same Batangas port where the pictures of the XL7 had been snapped.

The S-Presso is manufactured by Maruti Suzuki, which means it will be imported from India. We were told that this model would be classified as a hatchback in our market, even though it falls under the SUV category on the Suzuki website in India. This car is small—longer than the Jimny at 3,565mm, but lower at 1,549mm and narrower at 1,520mm.

In India, the S-Presso is powered by the 1.0-liter K10B gasoline engine rated at 67hp and 90Nm. If this motor and its numbers look familiar, that’s because it’s the same engine found under the hood of the Celerio.

Our source also gave us some marketing lines for the S-Presso: “Design inspired by Suzuki’s iconic SUV heritage. SUV-ish look because of its high ground clearance.”

It’s obvious that Suzuki Philippines is on the offensive. Competing brands need to start moving if they hope to keep up.
