Volvo has been quietly riding on a wave of achievements the past few years. Which makes this the perfect time for the Swedish automaker’s Philippine distributor to introduce the brand’s latest crossover, the beautifully designed XC40, which was presented to the media and VIP guests at Sofitel Philippine Plaza yesterday.

The unveiling came after the sport-ute had bagged a pair of coveted awards overseas: the 2018 Europe Car of the Year and the 2018 Japan Car of the Year. Continuing Volvo’s current design language of modern minimalistic elegance and modular architecture, the XC40 exudes a more youthful and fun character. Apart from Volvo’s intelligent safety technologies, form is balanced out with function as this premium subcompact crossover is equipped with luxurious amenities that cater to the sophisticated urban dweller.

The XC40 is offered locally in three variants:
- T5 AWD R-Design (2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo gasoline; 252hp and 350Nm) – P3,895,000
- D3 2WD R-Design (2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel; 150hp and 320Nm) – P3,495,000
- D3 2WD Momentum (2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel; 150hp and 320Nm) – P3,350,000

All variants come with an eight-speed Geartronic automatic transmission and a host of electronic driving aids. You can choose from six color options: Bursting Blue, Fusion Red, Onyx Black, Bright Silver, Osmium Gray and Crystal White.
According to Volvo Philippines president and CEO Atty. Albert Arcilla, the importer could bring in a hybrid version of the XC40 in the near future.

Volvo takes pride in its Scandinavian creations that promise to deliver a unique, blissful driving experience. The XC40 aims to bring that experience to a wider market. If you’re curious to know what an award-winning car is capable of, schedule a test drive soon. This vehicle will show you that Volvo today is so much more than just an automotive firm that specializes in airbags and other safety equipment.
