Crossovers continue to dominate sales charts in the country. But despite the growing number of entries in the segment, GAC Motor Philippines believes that there is room for another. And its latest fighter is the all-new GS4 compact crossover.

The GS4 fuses sporty and luxurious design elements. While it has a very familiar silhouette, important bits and pieces were changed for a better overall look. This starts with the huge grille that has a sportier blacked-out design and is flanked by slim LED headlights. The air dams and silver lower intake complements the front clip.

On the sides, a strong belt line stretches from the front all the way to the back. Soft character lines on the doors, a floating-roof design, and 17-inch aluminum rims make the GS4 look very modern and elegant. Finally, the rear end features a chrome bar and LED taillights. There are five colors to choose from: Lightning Blue, Rosefinch Red, Benite Gray, Ivory White and Elegant Black.

Inside, the dash layout is clean and simple. Switches are well laid out and within easy reach. The meaty tiller has buttons for audio and cruise control. The seats and door trims are wrapped in leather that provides a contrast to the generally dark interior. The gauge cluster has legible dials, and the infotainment system has Apple CarPlay. Topping everything off is the Aisin-made panoramic sunroof.

The GS4’s 1.5-liter turbocharged engine produces 166 horses and a healthy 265Nm. Power is transmitted to the front wheels courtesy of a six-speed automatic transmission. The power-steering system is electronic, and stopping chores are handled by disc brakes on all four wheels.

The all-new GS4 is loaded with features not common from products in its segment. It also has a long list of standard safety features to make sure its occupants are well-protected. For added peace of mind, GAC throws in a five-year (or 150,000km) warranty. Arguably, the best bit is the price: P1,098,000.

As it stands, choosing the right crossover is already quite a hard task given the number of choices. But this good-looking, feature-packed offering from GAC could make that job even more difficult.
