You can now buy a Peugeot 5008 midsize SUV

The distributor has announced specs and pricing

On November 27 last year, Peugeot Philippines launched three SUVs: the subcompact 2008, the compact 3008 and the midsize 5008. Well, at least verbally. One of them, the 5008, which used to be an MPV in its previous version, didn’t really have available units for sale. In fact, the local distributor of the French car brand couldn’t even quote official specifications and pricing for our market. Let’s just say the “launch” was actually just a preview. A teaser, in other words.

Well, we can now happily announce—in case you’re interested—that the seven-seater SUV is finally available, according to a press statement from the distributor. As in you can get your hands on a brand-new unit now and drive it home if you purchase it.

First, the basic specs. The 5008 for the Philippine market will be powered by a 1.6-liter Turbo High-Pressure gasoline engine rated at 165hp and 240Nm. If this motor sounds familiar, that’s because it’s the same unit that works under the hood of the 3008’s petrol version sold here. Peugeot Philippines president Glen Dasig is particularly proud of this gasoline engine, praising its “efficient power delivery” among other things.

At 4,641mm long, 1,844mm wide and 1,646mm tall, this SUV is a little shorter and narrower (and substantially lower) than both the Toyota Fortuner and the Nissan Terra—not that it’s being marketed to the same set of customers.

A major selling point of the 5008 is its modern-sounding i-Cockpit, which is just a techy way of calling a digital and immersive space for the driver. Look at it and tell us it isn’t one of the fanciest cockpit designs in the auto industry right now.

If you dig French styling but find the award-winning 3008 too small for you or your family, you might want to check out the 5008 in the metal. The price? A cool P2,990,000. Not bad, considering the 3008 that’s equipped with the same exact engine costs P2,590,000. Plus, you’ll get to ride in a more exclusive SUV than the midsize models currently offered by the Japanese and the Americans. Any takers?
