The Nomos Autobahn is for fashionable petrolheads

Cool enough for the track, thin enough for your suit

Watch aficionados usually have different timepieces for different occasions. For instance, a driver’s watch you wear to the racetrack with the boys, and a dress watch you pair with your business suit for more formal gatherings. It’s a little weird rocking a thick chronograph with a tuxedo, after all.

But what if you could own a watch that’s motoring-themed but thin enough to complement a dinner jacket? Check out the new Nomos Autobahn, the latest model from the German watchmaker famous for its Bauhaus design.

The Autobahn (which is German for “highway,” by the way) has a diameter of 41mm but is just 10.5mm thick and 66g heavy. That’s thanks to Nomos’s Neomatik caliber DUW 6101 that is merely 3.6mm thin. This 27-jewel automatic movement has a power reserve of 42 hours.

Created by German product designer Werner Aisslinger, the Nomos Autobahn is available in three dial colorways: white-silver, midnight blue and sports gray. “I love high-priced commissioned work speed,” Aisslinger is quoted as saying in the press release.

The DUW 6101 is the first Neomatik movement with a date complication. According to Nomos, the caliber needs just 30 minutes to completely change the date after midnight.

The Autobahn, water-resistant to 100m, features sapphire crystal on both sides, and also a “luminous ring of SuperLuminova-coated bars” for easy time-reading in the dark. A woven textile strap is attached to the watch’s 20mm lugs. Each piece is priced at $4,800 (P250,000).

If you’re looking for a car-inspired watch but don’t like bulky chronographs or overtly sporty designs, the Nomos Autobahn might be the timepiece for you.
