It’s been more than a week since Typhoon Odette hit the country. But until now, access to power, shelter, food and potable water remain very difficult for our fellow countrymen living in the affected areas. That’s why in this season of giving, we should share our blessings in our own little ways. Ford Philippines is doing just that
Through the Ford Motor Company Fund, the carmaker is teaming up with the American Chamber Foundation Philippines. Together, the two are making a donation to those affected by the typhoon through the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Incorporated. RAFI’s Bangon Visayas Humanitarian Response Initiative will then provide aid to communities in Cebu, Bohol, Leyte and Negros. This will help in the recovery of the communities and increase their resilience against natural disasters.
The program’s first phase will include the distribution of food and water, the deployment of generator sets and fuel to affected LGUs, and psychosocial support to families and children. The second phase will focus on teaching people how to construct safer and tougher homes, and assistance with new livelihoods.
While most of us are enjoying the various gifts we received this Christmas, let us never forget what this season is all about. May Ford’s project inspire us to be more charitable and to help others in any way we can.
