Here is Toyota PH’s per-model sales breakdown in 2020

Just how many units did your favorite vehicle sell in the pandemic?

You don’t need to be a sales expert to know that the total car industry volume in 2020 was significantly lower than that in the previous year. Because of the pandemic, many people stayed inside their home and resisted the urge to purchase a brand-new motor vehicle. From 410,000 vehicles in 2019, automakers (or at least those who reported their sales) made do with 244,000 last year—a whopping 40% drop.

Even perennial market leader Toyota Motor Philippines suffered a 38.32% dip with a 99,545-unit performance (it had moved 161,385 cars a year earlier). Still, the automaker’s total is nothing to scoff at. And when you realize that the brand’s two locally produced models (the Vios and the Innova) did well, it’s more than enough consolation in an otherwise underwhelming calendar year.

Here are the 2020 sales numbers of individual Toyota models in the Philippines:

  • Vios – 25,290
  • Hilux – 13,637
  • Wigo – 11,853
  • Innova – 10,551
  • Hiace – 10,362
  • Rush – 10,194
  • Fortuner – 8,494
  • Avanza – 5,531
  • Corolla Altis – 1,121
  • Corolla Cross – 598
  • Land Cruiser – 582
  • Alphard – 370
  • Camry – 230
  • FJ Cruiser – 208
  • Prado – 188
  • RAV4 – 176
  • Coaster – 67
  • Supra – 32
  • Yaris – 31
  • 86 – 30
  • Prius – 0
  • Prius C – 0

Just like in 2019, the Prius duo failed to attract any buyers. But that doesn’t mean the market isn’t ready for Toyota hybrid offerings. One of the vehicles introduced by the Japanese brand in our market in 2020 showed potential. We’re talking about the Corolla Cross, which sold 423 units of the gasoline version and 175 units of the hybrid version. We expect this model to continue doing great in 2021.

If you intend to drive home a new Toyota car this year, you should check out the company’s product schedule. Have fun shopping.
