A car-carrying ship reportedly transporting Porsche vehicles caught fire as it was sailing west of the Azores, a group of islands under Portuguese rule. The Felicity Ace is a roll-on/roll-off vessel owned by Japanese transport company Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, and was traveling between the ports of Emden (Germany) and Davisville (United States) when the incident occurred.

According to the Greek merchant-marine magazine Naftika Chronika, the 22-strong crew of the Felicity Ace abandoned ship aboard two lifeboats and was picked up by the Greek-owned tanker Resilient Warrior. From there, the Portuguese Navy airlifted the mix of Russian and Filipino mariners to shore-based triage facilities.

Based on publicly available import manifests, the Felicity Ace has repeatedly delivered various Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Bentley and Lamborghini models to the United States from production facilities in Europe and Mexico. Meanwhile, Porsche has already informed its customers of delivery delays due to the incident via its Track Your Dream service.
