Traffic these days has gone back to pre-pandemic levels. And it’s about to get worse for those passing through Roxas Boulevard. The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority is telling motorists to plan for alternate routes as a portion of the said road will be closed for three months.
The closure is due to the damaged Libertad Drainage Main Box Culvert located on the southbound side. The constant punishment of heavy trucks passing through Roxas Boulevard has significantly weakened the structure, and the Department of Public Works and Highways says that repair works must commence as soon as possible before the drainage collapses.
There is no start date of the project as of this writing. According to MMDA chairman Benjamin Abalos Jr., the agency is still mulling the partial or complete closure of the road section abeam HK Sun Plaza. Since construction work will affect container trucks coming from and going to the Manila International Container Terminal, one of the solutions being considered is transporting the containers by barge from MICT to the Cavite Gateway Terminal.
