NLEX Corporation, together with the Department of Public Works and Highways, today formally opened another Harbor Link elevated section situated between the Caloocan Interchange, the C3 Road and the Navotas Interchange. Spanning 2.6km, the new section is said to expand the NLEX network to the Camanava area and “eventually to Mel Lopez Boulevard (formerly R10) in Manila.”

In a press statement, NLEX Corporation describes the new stretch:

The new NLEX Harbor Link section features the new Caloocan Interchange (with on- and off-ramps along Grace Park), the new Malabon Exit (with an off-ramp on Dagat-Dagatan Avenue), and the new Navotas Interchange (with on- and off-ramps on North Bay Boulevard South). It lengthens the existing Harbor Link: the 2.42km Segment 9 between the NLEX Interchange and Barangay Karuhatan in Valenzuela City, and the 5.65km Segment 10 between Barangay Karuhatan and the new Caloocan Interchange at Grace Park (C3/5th Avenue).

“The expanded NLEX Harbor Link will certainly boost the government’s traffic decongestion efforts in Metro Manila and other major thoroughfares,” DPWH Secretary Mark Villar is quoted by the statement as saying. “This will be an alternative route between Quezon City and Manila. From the Mindanao Toll Plaza, motorists may now reach the Port Area in Manila in about 15 to 20 minutes.”

NLEX says this “high-impact project…is seen to benefit around 30,000 vehicles per day.” This includes both private cars and cargo trucks.

The expressway operator is now looking at completing a new exit ramp toward the Navotas Fish Port Complex.
