If you’re sick of queuing at long lines to load up your Beep card, then here’s some great news for you. Electronic financial services platform provider Coins.ph and contactless payment solutions provider Beep have formally announced their partnership that aims to help Filipino commuters skip the lines and make the task of reloading Beep cards easier.

Basically, Coins.ph has rolled out a new feature on its mobile app that lets you check and reload balance on your Beep card. Apparently, this works with Android smartphones capable of near-field communication. Previously, you had to load your Beep card using machines located at LRT-1, LRT-2 and MRT-3 stations, or by visiting select Bayad Center branches and other payment outlets.

To take advantage of the new system, all you need is an NFC-enabled Android smartphone, the Coins.ph mobile app and your Beep card. To check your Beep card’s balance, just launch the Coins.ph app and place the card behind your mobile phone. Your phone will automatically show how much value is left in the card. A ‘Load Your Card’ feature is also available, which allows you to transfer electronic load from your Coins.ph account to your Beep card from as low as P10.

Coins.ph claims to have more than four million active users. If true, this makes the company one of the biggest electronic money issuers and remittance firms in the Philippines. Licensed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, it markets itself as a safe and easy way of transferring money, buying load and making payments even if you don’t have a bank account. The Coins.ph app may be downloaded via the Google Play store.

Beep, on the other hand, is a leading tap-to-pay electronic payment solution. Using Beep cards, you can pay for select train, bus and jeepney rides; settle toll fees on North Luzon Expressway, Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway and Cavite Expressway; or make purchases at select Robinsons Movieworld, Family Mart and Wendy’s branches.
