We all have different and very unique lives. No two people have the same life story. Some are more challenging financially, while others are more difficult emotionally and psychologically. You could say some individuals exist in an Italian Grand Prix kind of situation, and others cope with the obstacles of a Clark International Speedway.

But whatever your circumstances are—whatever racetrack you’re on—the goal is the same. And that’s to reach the finish line in the fastest time possible. Or go through life victoriously. The idea is to avoid mistakes and accidents, to be accurate, and to follow the so-called racing line.

The racing line is the optimal line around the track. It is the perfect path on the circuit. It is the fastest way around it. In the photo above, the most ideal means of attacking the corner is to find the racing line around it, and you do that by determining the following points:

1. Braking point
2. Turning point
3. Apex point
4. Exit point

Master these points and you will have found the best way to race around a track. There is no other way to do it. And that’s also applicable to life. In life, the racing line—the ultimate and error-free way to do things—is following God’s will. Unfortunately, many of us carry out our affairs by insisting on our personal “pros and cons.” We rely on human logic. We like depending on our diskarte. Which often ends in regret, failure and heartache.

How to know God’s will?

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:2)

The way you perceive and see things needs to change. And that’s only possible if you have a real relationship with God. Only then will you understand that the drive of life must follow this simple instruction:

Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. (Joshua 1:7-9)

To be honest, many of us like to think we can drive like Ayrton Senna in the race of life. But even if that were true, a Formula 1 champion is not God. He makes mistakes. One wrong steering input and he loses a couple of seconds. But God is perfect. He knows everything. By trusting Him, we will spare ourselves from unnecessary setbacks.

Consider the life of Joseph the Dreamer in the Book of Genesis. When he was young, he was sold by his brothers (who were envious of him) to traders, who then sold him to an Egyptian. But Joseph understood God’s will or plan for his life. God allowed him to be sold to foreigners because a severe famine was set to hit the world sometime in the future, and only Egypt would have food. He became a high-ranking officer in Egypt, next only to Pharaoh. And so, he was able to feed and accommodate his entire family—including his spiteful siblings. None of this would have been possible if his brothers had not gotten rid of him.

Because Joseph knew and trusted God, he grasped every turn in his life. Even the seemingly unfair and cruel ones. Instead of holding a grudge against his brothers, this is what he told them:

But as for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. (Genesis 50:20)

How do you drive the race of life? Do you turn left and right thinking you know what’s best for yourself? Or do you let go and follow God’s flawless racing line?
