Has this Toyota Tamaraw FX really traveled 812,812km?

We check the official documents to verify the details

The other day, we shared a couple of photos of an old Toyota Tamaraw FX Revo being serviced at Toyota La Union. The vehicle looked in good condition in spite of its age. And we wrote the following caption:

It’s refreshing to see a government vehicle that has been maintained well. This 2002 Toyota Tamaraw FX Revo just needed new wheel bearings and front rotor discs. Oh, and it has run a total of 812,812km.

Now, some readers pointed out that the odometer reading was actually 81,281.2km, not 812,812km. The reason they said this was that the last digit in the photo looked different from the first five figures.

Here, take a look:

Does this look 812,812km to you? Or is it 81,281.2km? PHOTO BY MANSKEE NASCIMENTO

So we asked our teammate Manskee Nascimento to go back to the service center to investigate. Thankfully, the vehicle is still there.

Yep, the odometer reading is indeed 812,812km. It’s legit. The decimal fraction is, in fact, in the trip meter below the odometer.

Also, it turns out the vehicle is a 1999 model, although the system shows “2002” instead (no idea why). It was delivered on September 30, 1999, after having been sold by Toyota Dagupan.

Hats off to the Department of Agriculture for having kept this car in great shape. PHOTOS BY MANSKEE NASCIMENTO

No, this is not paid content by Toyota. We just want to establish the facts. We always take pride in serving only verified information to our readers.

And kudos to the Department of Agriculture for taking good care of this car (and putting our taxes to good use). We wish all government agencies were as meticulous in caring for their motoring assets.
