According to Geely Philippines, its Coolray bested all rivals in its class

In spite of the local car industry taking a huge blow from the ongoing health crisis, Geely Philippines (aka Sojitz G Auto Philippines) managed to bounce back as early as June, at least according to a press statement sent to us by the official distributor. Based on the statement, Geely sold 154 units of the Coolray. Apparently, this was enough to catapult the popular subcompact crossover SUV to the top of its class.

Geely has also provided us with the other sales figures in this class for June, which it says came from the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines (CAMPI) and the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID):

  • Geely Coolray – 154
  • Suzuki Jimny – 112
  • Ford EcoSport – 98
  • Hyundai Kona – 97
  • Suzuki Vitara – 43
  • Honda HR-V – 40
  • Kia Seltos – 16
  • Mazda CX-3 – 2

Note that the above list doesn’t include the MG ZS, mainly because its distributor does not divulge its per-model sales breakdown.

The recently introduced Azkarra compact SUV, meanwhile, moved 30 units, bringing Geely’s June sales total to 184 units. Without the numbers of MG—which Geely couldn’t ascertain—the Coolray importer believes it bagged 10th place overall in the industry as far as total sales are concerned.

Geely shares that it sold an aggregate of 549 cars from January to June this year.

Froilan Dytianquin, Geely Philippines’ sales and marketing general manager, says they recognize the importance of transparency when it comes to sales reporting, which is why Geely has sought to join both CAMPI and AVID. “We’re now a member of AVID,” the Filipino executive tells VISOR. “We have also applied to be a member of CAMPI, but our application is still pending.”

Let’s see if Geely can carry the momentum into the second half of 2020.
